Fall 2011

Wow, it's been a while!
Here's something i'm working on during the free time that i rarely (aka never) have.
I'm going to be drawing more fashion-related images (well, this is a fashion illustration blog anyway), so check back to see updates and more drawings :)
Don't forget i LOVE feedback...especially if it's good :) haha

I took this pose from a promotional e-mail I received from BCBG, and just flipped it around and changed the clothes, hair and expression. I loved the composition in the photo so I decided to make it a fashion illustration! :)

Hope you like it!

Children's Hat Design

Ah yes, yet another school project! Thank god it's fashion design!

Here's the line work for a children's hat concept, by yours truly! The theme is called "Switch It Up!" because the hat is reversible!

Enjoy! :)

Featured on Natasha Sebastian's Facebook page!

Hey guys!!

I have a friend who is a singer/songwriter from Montreal named Natasha Sebastian. She's a very talented individual, and she's already hit over 100,000 fans on Facebook!

I did a project on her recently for school. We had to make a "new culture" magazine, design the logo, cover page, and create a two-page spread. I posted the "almost final" version on my portfolio site, and she loved it, and therefore decided to post it to her fan page on Facebook!

Check it out here!:

rolling stone cover almost done!

Hey everyone!
Here is the almost complete version of my Jennifer Lopez Rolling Stone cover...still need to do some touch ups and add the type and rolling stone header but it shouldn't take too long! I added a knitted bra-top to make it a little different from the picture, and changed the style of her underwear as well! Hope ya like it!

This is my first ever realistic digital rendering and I gotta say, it was fun! I'll probably do more with my own photo references...if I ever find the time..

And here it is with type/touch-ups!!

500 Days of Summer - Rough cut

Hey everyone!
It's been a rough week! So many things to do, and very little time (as per ushe).
Here's a very rough animatic I made for school. We're making a title sequence for a movie of our choice, and obviously mine is 500 Days of Summer...so here it is, still rough and a little slow, because actions need to be added (we just needed to give a general idea of the direction we were going) ... Enjoy!

feb. 21/2011

Hey guysss
Here is my re-worked fashion illustration. After doing it in a graphic approach I decided to restart and use traditional graphite and nice, fancy paper. Here's the scan, color will be added in photoshop solely to the collars and necklace, maybe even the lips. I really want to keep the "illustration" aspect of this project.

and here it is with some color!
Now time fortouch-ups
and type...

Lady Gaga

Here's another project i'm working on: a redesign for an album. I chose Lady Gaga because she's so eccentric and out there, and I thought I could pull off a cool graphic element as an album cover. I decided to re-design the Fame Monster album. Just started today, lots to be done because its due in TWO WEEKS :O ...

Storyboards galore!

Hey guys!
Here's one of the recent things i've been working on, storyboards for a title sequence. The movie I chose to do for this is, my personal favourite, 500 Days of Summer. I really wanted to capture the essence of the movie in the title sequence, so I decided to portray different scenes (or days) in the film as illustrative elements. If you watch the movie I think you'll get what I'm trying to go for (and if you haven't seen this movie, I highly recommend it!!)

I want to go for a more linear/loose drawing style with textured backgrounds. It's all going to be a random assemblage of different days that the two main characters experienced, but they won't look exactly as they do in the film (and they'll be stylized).

I better go or i'll never get to sleep...

Rolling Stone Cover

Hey guys!

Here's another school project i've started: the Rolling Stones magazine cover. We can basically put anyone we want on the cover, so I decided to digitally illustrate Jennifer Lopez (I looked up to her when I was young, plus she's stunning). Fortunately, we're allowed to use an internet reference for this project. Here's my progress from yesterday to today:

Fashion Week Poster Design

One of my projects this semester is designing a poster for fashion week, and I'm freaking out because I've been waiting, oh, 2 and a half friggin' years to do a fashion-related project. My concept is modern metallic (chunky) accessories for fall/winter 2011, and my city of choice is Montreal, my hometown. Here are are some of my thumbnails! I'm thinking of doing this project traditionally with a mesh of collage with cool textured paper (like the small samples on some of the sketches).

Spring collections 2011

J. Mendel is officially one of my favorites, his spring 2011 ready-to-wear collection is gorgeous. Love the neutral colours and flow of the fabrics. Here are some of my favourites (It was SO hard to pick because I love everything!!) :

jan 22

It's almost done ... I think ... still want to fix the eye and put more work into the dress. She's also missing a shoulder but all will be done in due time, aka this weekend (i'm hoping no further procrastination will take place).

Fashion Sketch continuation

So I continued on the fashion sketch and ended up with a really ugly result by going with a style that was a little too sketchy and loose. I decided to restart it, and it looks miles better than my first try. I'm a big fan of restarting work, I discovered, because the second or third try is always better (in this case, WAY BETTER) than the first. I couldn't even believe the comparison, it looks like someone else did it:

Here's the first try, sketchy and loose. I wasn't happy with this one as I worked on it,
I like it when my work looks nice from the start, even though that's not always the case.

Here's the second try! I'm really happy with it. And it took me half the time it took to make
the sketchier one above. It's obviously still in the rough stages but I'm excited
to see how it will look when it's finished. I decided to open her eye
for more of an intense feeling in the composition, also I found it really hard
to render a closed eye because it always looked fake. Instead of starting with line,
I started with the shadows and then added lines and it really helped.

That's all for now! You comments and critiques are always welcome!

New Project

New Year's Resolution: Create fashion works to add to my portfolio (among other things)

Here's a sketch i'm working on, and yes, you guessed it, it's a fashion piece.

I'm thinking of making the dress partly in colour and partly in black and white, but we'll see what happens.

That's all for now!
